Material and methods: Quantitative, analytical observational case-control study. The sample size was 144, with uterine atony as the outcome variable and sociodemographic, clinical, and laboratory covariates. A data collection sheet was used, along with descriptive and analytical statistics, calculating the crude and adjusted Odds Ratio (OR) with a significance level of p<0.05. Results: 29.17% (n=14) were over 35 years old, the median blood loss volume was 800cc (IQR: 500-2700), 62.5% (n=30) had comorbidities, 72.92% (n=35) had adequate prenatal care, 25% (n=12) had a long inter-pregnancy interval, 8.33% (n=4) had a history of uterine atony, 50% (n=24) had multiparity, 56.25% (n=27) had previous severe preeclampsia, 91.67% (n=44) had thrombocytopenia, and 79.17% (n=38) had anemia. In the crude and adjusted models using Poisson regression, no statistically significant association with uterine atony was reported. Conclusion: No statistically significant associations were found between uterine atony and sociodemographic, clinical, or laboratory factors in cesarean postpartum women.Ítem Acceso abierto Factors associated with the level of knowledge about preeclampsia and eclampsia in human medicine interns, Lima 2024(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-08-26) Falcón Córdova, Yulissa Leyla; Espinoza Pacheco, Jorge LuisIntroduction: Preeclampsia and eclampsia represent significant challenges in maternal health, being major causes of morbidity and mortality. During medical training, it is essential that medical interns gain substantial knowledge about preeclampsia and eclampsia, as they pose severe risks to maternal and fetal health. Objective: To determine the factors associated with the level of knowledge about preeclampsia and eclampsia among medical interns in Lima during 2024. Methods: A cross-sectional observational analytical study was conducted with medical interns from the Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener in 2024. A sample of 83 students was taken. A 20-question questionnaire was used, divided into two parts: a) prevention of preeclampsia and eclampsia; b) diagnosis and treatment of preeclampsia and eclampsia. The survey completion time was 10 minutes. Results: It was found that 51.8% of students had high knowledge, and 48.2% had low knowledge about preeclampsia and eclampsia. Moreover, sociodemographic factors associated with knowledge about preeclampsia and eclampsia were age (p=0.004), school type (p=0.015), and having children (p=0.044). Academic factors associated with knowledge were academic standing (p=0.008), internship modality (p=0.021), and IPRESS type (p=0.006). Conclusion: There are factors associated with knowledge about preeclampsia and eclampsia among medical interns in Lima during 2024.Ítem Acceso abierto Frequency of vertical transmission in newborns of mothers with COVID-19 treated at the National Maternal Perinatal Institute, 2021(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-04-17) Urbano Soto, Cynthia Pamela; Espinoza Pacheco, Jorge LuisIntroduction: SARS-CoV-2 is the type of beta coronavirus responsible for the origin of COVID-19, similar to MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV. In December 2019, an outbreak occurred in Wuhan, China, and was classified as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO). COVID-19 has high morbidity and mortality, potentially impacting the health of neonates. Objective: To determine the frequency of vertical transmission in newborns of mothers with COVID-19 treated at the INMP in 2021. Methodology: An observational, descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted using the INMP 2021 database, selecting 235 clinical histories of pregnant women with COVID-19. A descriptive univariate analysis was performed regarding the frequency of each variable. Results: 235 mothers and neonates participated. 80.9% of neonates were born at term, and 19.1% were preterm. 12.3% (29/235) tested positive for COVID-19, and of these, 3% (7/235) were admitted to the COVID ICU. The mortality rate was 2.6% (6/235). Conclusion: The study found a vertical transmission frequency of COVID-19 of 12.3%, similar to other systematic review studies.Ítem Acceso abierto Prevalence and risk factors associated with urinary tract infection in pregnant women at the San José Lima Maternal and Infantil Center, 2023(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-01-18) Medina Pillaca, Carolina; Espinoza Pacheco, Jorge LuisThe research aimed to determine the prevalence and factors associated with urinary tract infections in pregnant women at the San José Maternal and Child Center in Lima in 2023.
