Ítem Acceso abierto Effectiveness of supraglottic mask i-gel versus laryngeal mask airway in adult patients induced to general anesthesia.(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2020-11-15) Estrella Gonzales, Rocio del Pilar; Pretell Aguilar, Rosa MariaObjective: To systematize the evidence on the effectiveness of the insertion of the I-gel mask versus the laryngeal mask in adult patients undergoing general anesthesia. Materials and methods: The study design used was quantitative, with a systematic review design; observational and retrospective, summarizing results and conclusions from primary research. These integrate as part of the fundamental studies of evidence in the medical field, as they have strict methods, gathering relevant works that could address specific questions in the field of health application. The population was based on the bibliographic review of 34 articles that were scientifically disseminated in a database, with the studies not older than 10 years. Ten articles were selected that met the following criteria: original articles in English, no age or gender restrictions. Results: The 10 articles found were systematic reviews, considering the type of study and article design: 40% (4/10) are comparative studies, 30% (3/10) are prospective studies, 20% (2/10) are systematic reviews, and 10% (1/10) are meta-analyses. According to evidence quality, 70% (7/10) presented moderate quality, and 30% (3/10) were of high quality. The studies are from India (30%), Korea (20%), and other countries such as China, Egypt, Japan, the UK, and Spain (10%). Conclusions: The effectiveness of the I-gel mask is evident, as it has a shorter insertion time and better sealing, with no adverse events or complications.
