Ítem Acceso abierto Social support and coping with stress in patients with breast cancer hospitalized at the national institute of neoplastic diseases. Lime, 2021(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-02-13) Félix Luyo, Lizéth Mercedes; Gonzales Saldaña, Susan HaydeeCancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the body and can occur anywhere in the organism, potentially leading to metastasis in distant parts of the body. Individuals diagnosed with breast cancer at the National Institute of Neoplastic Diseases (Instituto Nacional de Enfermedades Neoplásicas) experience significant emotional impact, as they are exposed to the probability of death. This also creates an imbalance on a personal and family level. As a result, the individual requires coping strategies that provide a sense of security and allow them to continue throughout the course of the illness. Given this situation, it is necessary to address the psychosocial aspects of cancer patients to ensure a comprehensive approach to treatment. Objective: To determine the relationship between social support and stress coping in breast cancer patients. Methodology: This research study is deductive, with a quantitative, correlational, and non-experimental cross-sectional design. The study sample consists of 200 women with breast cancer who are hospitalized at the National Institute of Neoplastic Diseases, selected intentionally from a population of 132 oncological patients. Two instruments were used: the MOS Social Support Survey and the CAEPO, an instrument to assess stress coping in oncology patients, previously used in research involving oncological patients in Peru.
