    Level of caregiver burden in family caregivers of patients with schizophrenia at the Víctor Larco Herrera Hospital, Lima, Peru

    The objective of this research was to determine the level of caregiver burden in family caregivers of patients with schizophrenia at the Víctor Larco Herrera Hospital, Lima, Peru, in 2015. Methodology: This is a quantitative, descriptive, and cross-sectional study. It was conducted at the outpatient consultation rooms of the Víctor Larco Herrera Hospital, involving 65 family caregivers. The instrument used was the Zarit Caregiver Burden Scale. Results: In a sample of 65 family caregivers, it was found that the burden experienced by family caregivers was at a mild level in 61.5% (40), 13.8% (9) experienced intense burden, and 24.6% (16) reported no burden. Conclusions: The burden experienced by family caregivers, across each of the dimensions, is predominantly mild, with the dimension of self-efficacy expectations being the most affected.
