Ítem Acceso abierto Factors associated with the level of knowledge about preeclampsia and eclampsia in human medicine interns, Lima 2024(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-08-26) Falcón Córdova, Yulissa Leyla; Espinoza Pacheco, Jorge LuisIntroduction: Preeclampsia and eclampsia represent significant challenges in maternal health, being major causes of morbidity and mortality. During medical training, it is essential that medical interns gain substantial knowledge about preeclampsia and eclampsia, as they pose severe risks to maternal and fetal health. Objective: To determine the factors associated with the level of knowledge about preeclampsia and eclampsia among medical interns in Lima during 2024. Methods: A cross-sectional observational analytical study was conducted with medical interns from the Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener in 2024. A sample of 83 students was taken. A 20-question questionnaire was used, divided into two parts: a) prevention of preeclampsia and eclampsia; b) diagnosis and treatment of preeclampsia and eclampsia. The survey completion time was 10 minutes. Results: It was found that 51.8% of students had high knowledge, and 48.2% had low knowledge about preeclampsia and eclampsia. Moreover, sociodemographic factors associated with knowledge about preeclampsia and eclampsia were age (p=0.004), school type (p=0.015), and having children (p=0.044). Academic factors associated with knowledge were academic standing (p=0.008), internship modality (p=0.021), and IPRESS type (p=0.006). Conclusion: There are factors associated with knowledge about preeclampsia and eclampsia among medical interns in Lima during 2024.
