    Muscle weakness in patients admitted to intensive care units (ICUs) and its relationship with prolonged hospital stays. Several studies conducted in different Latin American countries highlight the high incidence of muscle weakness in ICU patients, as well as the risk factors associated with this condition, such as invasive mechanical ventilation, prolonged immobilization, and ICU delirium. Additionally, the importance of physiotherapy in the ICU is emphasized to prevent muscle weakness and improve patient recovery. Other factors that may influence prolonged hospital stays are also mentioned, including advanced age and the responsiveness of healthcare institutions. In this context, the need to investigate muscle weakness and its relationship with hospitalization time in a level IV hospital in the city of Chiclayo during 2022 is proposed. This information could be highly useful for developing strategies to prevent and treat muscle weakness in ICU patients, potentially contributing to shorter hospital stays and improving patients' quality of life.
