    Ruminative thinking style and body image dissatisfaction in adolescent women from a public educational institution in Puente Piedra, Lima 2020

    The research aimed to describe the relationship between ruminative thinking style and body image dissatisfaction in adolescent women from a public educational institution in Puente Piedra. This was a quantitative, descriptive-correlational study applied to 216 participants from the 3rd, 4th, and 5th years of secondary school. The Rumination Response Scale by Nolen-Hoeksema and Morrow (1991) and the Body Image Dissatisfaction Scale by Cooper, Taylor, Cooper, and Fairburn (1987), both adapted to Spanish and the Peruvian context, were used. The results showed a direct, significant, and moderate relationship (p = .000 and rho = .597) between the ruminative thinking style and body image dissatisfaction, as well as between the dimensions of each variable. Furthermore, it was found that 87% of adolescents had moderate levels of rumination, 12% exhibited a ruminative style, and 36.6% presented body dissatisfaction at some level. It is concluded that high rumination scores tend to be associated with high body dissatisfaction scores, suggesting that both reproaches and reflection styles may be linked to concerns about weight and body dissatisfaction.
