Ítem Acceso abierto Effectiveness of the basic life support training program for nursing staff in reducing mortality and complications in critically ill patients(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-08-26) Galvez Ayala, Melissa Rosario; Fretel Celaya, Victoria Beatriz; Bonilla Asalde, César AntonioObjective: To systematize the evidence on the basic life support training program for nursing staff in reducing mortality and complications in critically ill patients. Materials and Methods: Observational and retrospective systematic review, which synthesizes the results of multiple primary investigations. The search was restricted to full-text articles, and the selected articles were critically analyzed using the GRADE system to assign the strength of recommendations. Results: In the final selection, 10 articles were chosen. We found that 40% (04/10) correspond to a prospective randomized trial from the USA, Egypt, Spain, and Malaysia; 30% (03/10) are quasi-experimental articles from Botswana, Thailand, and Brazil; 10% (01/10) is a descriptive cross-sectional article from Saudi Arabia; 10% (01/10) is a prospective article from India; and 10% (01/10) is an experimental article from Iran. Conclusions: Of the 10 articles reviewed, 100% (n=10/10) showed that the basic life support training program for nursing staff is essential for the survival of critically ill patients. Therefore, any course regarding basic life support should not only focus on literature but should be based on practice through various instructor strategies. This basic life support training should be periodic across different levels of care to ensure that healthcare personnel are properly prepared to act in cases of cardiorespiratory arrest.
