Ítem Acceso abierto Critical review: efficacy of probiotic use for the prevention and control of diarrhea in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-07-04) Gómez La Rosa, Jose Antonio Jesús; Bohórquez Medina, Andrea LisbetChemotherapy-induced diarrhea (CID) is a common gastrointestinal adverse reaction after chemotherapy and radiation therapy, negatively affecting the quality of life of cancer patients. Many clinical and preclinical studies show that chemotherapy significantly alters the gut microbiota. Numerous bacteria, called probiotics, have been identified as protectors against tumor genesis. Given their ability to preserve intestinal homeostasis, probiotics have been shown to have a beneficial effect on the appearance and/or severity of diarrhea and also play a protective role against cancer development. This research, titled "Critical Review: Efficacy of Probiotics in Preventing and Controlling Diarrhea in Cancer Patients Undergoing Chemotherapy," aimed to investigate whether probiotics are effective in preventing and controlling diarrhea in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.
