Ítem Acceso abierto Effectiveness of antibiotics in peritonitis associated with peritoneal dialysis(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-08-12) Arévalo Pinto, Viviana; García Gonzales, Gabriela; Calsin Pacompia, WilmerObjective: To analyze and systematize the evidence on the efficacy of antibiotics in peritonitis associated with peritoneal dialysis. Materials and Methods: The study type was quantitative with a systematic review design. The population consisted of 25 articles, and the sample was 10 published scientific articles. The instrument used was a search in databases such as Scielo, Cochrane Plus, Pubmed, Medline, and Epistemonikos. The GRADE system was used for article evaluation, assessing the quality of evidence and the strength of recommendations. Results: 80% of the studies report efficacy, while 20% found them ineffective. Conclusions: 8 out of 10 articles were effective in reducing future complications through the use of first-line, broad-spectrum antibiotics that covered both gram-negative and gram-positive organisms. These antibiotics were easy to administer and did not cause adverse effects. 2 out of 10 articles concluded that antibiotics were not effective, as no superior treatments were identified that could reduce the disease.
