Ítem Acceso abierto Critical review: effect of exercise on gut microbiota in people with metabolic diseases(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-02-14) García León, Melba Luisa; Bohórquez Medina, Andrea LisbetMetabolic syndrome (MS) is considered a group of metabolic diseases as a risk factor, and it has increased in recent years worldwide, becoming a public health problem that increases the risk of developing various diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular issues by 2 to 6 times. This research aimed to create a scientific critical commentary based on a literature review on the established problem to understand its consequences. The Evidence-Based Nutrition (EBN) methodology was used. After searching for articles, 13 were selected to be evaluated using the CASPE tool for critical reading. The selected article titled ‘Effect of exercise on the intestinal microbiota in individuals with metabolic diseases’ was chosen, with a high level of evidence and recommendation grade AI-Strong. The critical commentary concluded that there is significant evidence to suggest that regular moderate-intensity exercise affects intestinal metabolism and microbiota in individuals with insulin resistance. It is suggested to conduct further research, as the present study found a negative correlation between intestinal FAU and whole-body insulin sensitivity.
