Ítem Acceso abierto Effectiveness of the administration of cannabis oil in pediatric patients with refractory epilepsy(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-10-20) Quispe Gutierrez, Myriam Pamela; Gomez Espiritu, Cecilia del Pilar; Cárdenas de Fernández, María HildaObjective: Systematize the evidence on the effectiveness of the administration of cannabis derivatives in reducing seizures in the treatment of patients with refractory epilepsy. Material and Methods: Systematic review meta-analysis, using the GRADE evaluation system to assess the level of evidence, found in the following databases: Pubmed, Pediatrics Official Journal of the AAPS, Scielo, Wiley Online Library. A total of 25 articles were found, but only 10 articles were selected and systematically reviewed. 80% (n = 08/10) of them are systematic reviews, and 20% (n = 02/10) are community-controlled trials. According to the results of the systematic review conducted in this study, the articles come from the countries of Argentina (10%) (n = 01/10), followed by Australia (10%) (n = 1/10), Brazil (10%) (n = 01/10), Canada (20%) (n = 02/10), the USA (30%) (n = 03/10), and Italy (20%) (n = 02/10). Results: Of all the articles found in the systematic review, the use of cannabinoids showed significant effectiveness in the treatment of patients with refractory epilepsy, reducing the number of seizures and improving their quality of life when used as an adjunctive treatment. Conclusion: 100% of the articles used show the effectiveness, in varying degrees, of using cannabinoids for the treatment of drug-resistant epilepsy. However, many of these indicate that further knowledge is needed to accept these results and make them an approved treatment by health authorities worldwide.
