Publicación Acceso abierto Formas de eliminación de medicamentos no consumidos y/o vencidos en hogares del distrito de Chorrillos mayo–octubre 2020(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2021-07-23) Gonzales Huallpa, Beats Julissa; Parreño Tipián, Juan ManuelCurrently, there is inadequate management in Peru regarding the disposal of expired or unused medications in households. Faced with this problem, this study was carried out with the objective of determining the methods of disposal for unused and/or expired medications in households in the Chorrillos district from May to October 2020. The research methodology is non-experimental and cross-sectional, with a quantitative and descriptive approach. For this, surveys were conducted in 291 households in the Chorrillos district. Results showed that the two main reasons for medication disposal are expiration date and being unused, collectively representing 87.7%. The chosen place for disposal is the trash can (89.7%). Regarding disposal practices, only 17.8% properly dispose of liquid medications, and 18.2% properly dispose of solid medications. In conclusion, a large part of the population is unaware of the proper management and final disposal of unused and expired medications, which can negatively affect the environment and the health of the residents of the Chorrillos district.
