Achievement of functional independence of patients with hemiplegic stroke after physiotherapy treatment in a rehabilitation hospital in Lima, period January to June 2017

The objective was to evaluate the achievement of functional independence after physiotherapy treatment in patients with hemiplegic stroke. The instrument used was the Barthel test - Functional Independence. The sample consisted of 72 patients of both genders, including ages from 20 to 79 years. SPSS 20 statistical program was used. Our research has a Non-Experimental – Descriptive design, since no variable will be manipulated, the fact will be described as it is, no situation is constructed or created, only the existing one is described.

Antibacterial effect of the hydroalcoholic extract of erythroxylum coca lam. (coca) compared to chlorhexidine gluconate 0.12% versus strains of streptococcus mutans. In vitro study. Lima 2021

Objetivo: Esta investigación tuvo como objetivo evaluar el efecto antibacteriano del extracto hidroalcohólico de Erythroxylum coca Lam. (coca) comparado con gluconato de clorhexidina al 0,12% contra cepas de Streptococcus mutans in vitro. Metodología: Se realizó un estudio cuantitativo, aplicado, cuasi experimental. La variable principal estudiada fue el agente antibacteriano, comparándose concentraciones de 50%, 75% y 100% del extracto hidroalcohólico de Erythroxylum coca Lam. (coca) con gluconato de clorhexidina al 0,12%. Se desarrollaron cultivos bacterianos de Streptococcus mutans utilizando una muestra de 70 placas. Resultados: El extracto hidroalcohólico de Erythroxylum coca Lam. (coca) mostró efectos antibacterianos contra Streptococcus mutans en las tres concentraciones a las 24 y 48 horas. El mayor halo de inhibición media se observó con una concentración del 50% a las 48 horas (31,01 mm), mientras que el menor se registró con clorhexidina al 0,12% a las 24 horas (10 mm). Conclusión: Existe una diferencia significativa en el efecto antibacteriano del extracto hidroalcohólico de Erythroxylum coca Lam. (coca) en comparación con el gluconato de clorhexidina al 0,12% frente a cepas de Streptococcus mutans in vitro.

“Calidad de vida en pacientes con Accidente cerebro vascular que reciben atención de rehabilitación en un hospital de lima-2018”

La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo Determinar la calidad de vida en pacientes con accidente cerebro vascular que reciben atención de rehabilitación en un hospital de lima-2018, el método que se aplico fue de tipo no experimental, nivel cuantitativo, de diseño descriptivo, transversal en un periodo de octubre a diciembre del 2018. La población objeto estuvo conformada por 42 pacientes con accidentes cerebro vascular, a los cuales se le aplico el cuestionario de calidad de vida Short FORM-36 Health Survey (SF-36v2), cuyos resultados con respecto a las características sociodemográficas, el sexo masculino fue el mas frecuente, las edades de 51-65 años tuvieron mayor porcentaje en los pacientes, el grado de instrucción secundaria predominó con el 32,6%, la ocupación artesanos tuvo un mayor porcentaje de 44,2%, el tipo de accidente cerebro vascular isquémico fue superior con el 83,33% sobre el hemorrágico, el lado mas comprometido fue la hemiplejía izquierda con el 62,8% de acuerdo al tiempo de evolución la etapa aguda presentó un 51,2% y según su grado de funcionalidad fue moderado con 60,55%. Y la media de la calidad de vida en los componentes físico mental fue baja, en las dimensiones rol físico y rol emocional. Conclusión: La calidad de vida en el componente físico y mental fue baja en los pacientes con acv que recibieron atención de rehabilitación en un hospital de lima, siendo las dimensiones de menor puntaje el rol físico y el rol emocional.

Clinical manifestations associated with neurological complications from COVID 19 in patients at the Regional Hospital of Ayacucho, 2021

In early December 2019, a viral atypical pneumonia outbreak was reported in Wuhan, China, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus (COVID-19). The infection spread rapidly, reaching South America, and the first confirmed case in Lima, Peru, was in March 2020. The clinical manifestations of COVID-19 patients included fever (88.7%), cough (57.6%), shortness of breath or fatigue (45.6%), muscle pain (myalgia) (44%), sputum production (28%), headache (2.8%), hemoptysis (5%), and diarrhea (3%). Neurological complications at the central nervous system (CNS) level include hemorrhagic stroke, ischemic stroke, encephalopathies, encephalitis, etc.; at the peripheral nervous system (PNS) level, there are alterations in smell and taste, rhabdomyolysis, and Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS). The objective of this study is to determine whether there is a significant relationship between the clinical manifestations of COVID-19 and neurological complications in patients hospitalized at the Regional Hospital of Ayacucho in 2021. The method was non-experimental, descriptive-correlational-retrospective, using an epidemiological COVID-19 data collection form.

Efecto de la psicomotricidad en el riesgo de caídas en adultos mayores de una casa de reposo, lima, 2021

El envejecimiento genera cambios en las propiedades de diversos sistemas, siendo estos más marcados en los adultos mayores institucionalizados, ya que enfrentan un entorno diferente, con pobre presencia familiar y mayor inactividad física, repercutiendo en las funciones motrices y predisponiéndolos a sufrir caídas y que estas sean más frecuentes. La Psicomotricidad es una forma de trabajo integral y multicomponente, que incidirá en el movimiento y en su variación, ayudando a combatir problemas originados de la retrogénesis psicomotriz, guiando al adulto mayor hacia la superación de sus dificultades, para así lograr disminuir el riesgo de caídas. Se realizará un estudio pre-experimental, con el objetivo de determinar el efecto de la Psicomotricidad en el riesgo de caídas en adultos mayores. Se aplicará el Test de Tinetti para la evaluación de riesgo de caídas. Luego se realizará un programa psicomotor durante 3 meses, 2 veces por semana, con una duración de 60 minutos por sesión. Cada sesión constará de 3 fases: Calentamiento, Núcleo de la intervención y Retorno a la calma. Concluido el programa se procederá a realizar el post-test para evaluar nuevamente el riesgo de caídas.

Neurorehabilitation aims to prevent complications and reduce neurological deficits in cases of hemiplegia and other sequelae of stroke. Physiotherapy approaches use various methods and tools that are essential for physiotherapists to provide effective treatment to patients who have suffered neurological damage. The World Health Organization lists stroke as the leading cause of death and its sequelae as the primary cause of disability worldwide. In Peru, there is a high incidence of patients with post-stroke sequelae. Dry needling is an invasive technique used to reduce the muscle tone of spasticity, a physical characteristic left by strokes, aiming to decrease the tone increase and help physiotherapists improve the patient's condition.

Family support in physiotherapeutic adherence among stroke patients is low because families often believe that the patient is too ill to recover, thus not providing emotional, evaluative, or instrumental support for recovery. The objective of this study is to determine the relationship between family support and adherence to physiotherapeutic treatment in stroke patients. The methodology will be scientific, hypothetical-deductive, applied, with a correlational non-experimental design, descriptive-correlational, with a population of 40 stroke patients, who will also serve as the sample. Survey and observation techniques will be used, and the Family Support MOS Questionnaire and Physiotherapeutic Adherence Questionnaire will be applied. Data will be processed using SPSS version 27 to confirm the proposed hypothesis.

Low back pain in patients with radiculopathy impacts their functional capacity in various ways. This study aims to delve into the information available and create a basis for developing low back pain prevention programs in this population, considering that radiculopathy patients often face challenges related to their daily activities due to neurological involvement. Strategies are needed to improve their performance in daily activities and minimize functional disability. Objective: To determine the relationship between functional disability and low back pain in patients with radiculopathy.

Level of functionality and the level of quality of life in patients with spinal cord injury of “Luis N. Saenz“ PNP National Hospital, period February - March 2021

The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between functionality level and quality of life in spinal cord injury patients at the National Hospital “Luis N. Sáenz” PNP during the period of February - March 2021. Materials and Methods: SCIM III was used to assess functionality and SF36V.2 to assess quality of life. The population consisted of 80 spinal cord injury patients, with a sample of 65. The methodology was hypothetical-deductive with a quantitative, applied, non-experimental approach, and a cross-sectional correlational design. Data were analyzed using SPSS software and Spearman’s Rho was used to determine correlations. Results: 84.6% of participants were male, 50.8% were 51 years or older, 63.1% were married, and 86.2% were employed. Clinically, 55.4% of patients had complete spinal cord injuries, and 72.4% were paraplegic. Etiologically, 76.9% had traumatic causes, with 43.1% due to traffic accidents. Regarding injury duration, 58.5% had been injured for 9 years or more. The most common secondary complications were muscle shortening (26.4%) and urinary infections (25.9%). Conclusions: A direct correlation was found between functionality and physical quality of life in spinal cord injury patients (p value = 0.046), but no correlation was found between functionality and mental quality of life.

Se utilizó programa estadístico SPSS 20. Nuestra investigación es de diseño No Experimental – Descriptivo, pues no se manipulará ninguna variable, se describirá el hecho tal y cual es, no se construye ni se crea ninguna situación, solo se describe la ya existente.

Motor function and quality of life in schoolchildren with Down syndrome from a special school, Chimbote - Peru, 2022

In children with Down syndrome, the acquisition of motor function differs from that of children with typical motor development, caused by the development of their central nervous system, the presence of primitive reflexes, hypotonia, and joint hypermobility. These factors generate delays in achieving milestones such as rolling, sitting, crawling, standing, and walking. Due to delays in motor skills, their quality of life may be affected, impacting physical, emotional, social, and academic functionality. Therefore, it is essential to understand how motor function and quality of life are related in children with this condition, as it will help establish physiotherapy intervention strategies that positively impact both motor function and quality of life. The objective of this study is to determine the relationship between motor function and quality of life in children with Down syndrome, using a hypothetical-deductive study approach, a quantitative applied design, and a correlational non-experimental design. The Motor Function Measure (GMFM 88) will be used to assess motor function, and the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL 4.0) will be used to assess quality of life.

Motor function and social participation of people with cerebral palsy in the town of Yauli – La Oroya - Peru, 2022

Introduction: Children and adolescents with cerebral palsy represent a significant population worldwide, nationally, and regionally with motor disabilities, often presenting physical impairments that limit their participation in society. In the province of Yauli – La Oroya, these limitations are exacerbated by a lack of information, access to recreational spaces, and societal discrimination, leading to the concealment of their condition by their families. Objective: To determine the relationship between motor function and social participation of individuals with cerebral palsy in the town of Yauli, Peru, 2022. Materials and Methods: This is a correlational, cross-sectional study. The sample consists of 40 children and adolescents diagnosed with cerebral palsy. The instruments used will be the GMFCS E & R (Gross Motor Function Classification System) and the CASP Children's and Adolescent's Participation Scale.

Nivel funcional y enfermedad luxante de cadera en los niños con paralisis cerebral infantil en la clinica San Juan de Dios Lima, 2019-2020

La PCI causa más frecuente de discapacidad motora infancia, Clasificación de función motora gruesa se da 5 niveles funcionales, ELC es la alteración musculoesquelética de mayor complicación. Objetivo. Determinar la relación entre el NF y la ELC en los niños con PCI. Material y método. El nivel de investigación es área de salud, enfermedad y medio ambiente, el tipo de investigación es aplicativo, el diseño de investigación es no experimental: correlacional, prospectivo y transversal, la Población 65 Niños, periodo setiembre 2019–enero 2020, para medir el NF se dio el clasificador de la función motora gruesa GMFCS y ELC con la H.C. Resultados. El sexo masculino fue 54%, la displasia de cadera en los niveles II y III según GMFCS en las edades de 2 a 4 años y las edades de 6 a 12 años presentan Subluxación de cadera en niveles IV y V, el diagnóstico clínico y topográfico cuadriplejia con 67,7%, espástica con 93,8 % respectivamente, La relación de las variables nivel funcional y ELC fue significativa p = 0,005 Conclusión. Es poco probable que el nivel funcional II, III, IV, V con la ELC no tenga relación significativa en los niños con PCI.

Peripheral neuropaty and risk of falling in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at the Palpa Hospital, 2022

Diabetes mellitus is the most prevalent metabolic disease globally, and one of its chronic complications is peripheral neuropathy, which affects motor, sensory, and autonomic function, impairing stability and walking in affected patients and potentially increasing their risk of falls. Objective: To determine the relationship between peripheral neuropathy and the risk of falls in type 2 diabetes patients at the Palpa Support Hospital. Materials and Methods: A positivist, applied, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and correlational study. In 2022, patients aged 40 to 80 with type 2 diabetes and peripheral neuropathy (assessed using the Michigan Neuropathy Screening Instrument) will be studied. The risk of falls will be determined using the Tinetti test. Results: The correlation between peripheral neuropathy and fall risk will be assessed using Spearman’s correlation. Conclusions: The study will document the correlation between diabetic peripheral neuropathy and fall risk.

Spasticity and Hip Dislocation in Children with Cerebral Palsy, in a Non-Governmental Organization, Arequipa - Peru 2023

Currently, cerebral palsy (CP) is a group of permanent movement and posture disorders that cause activity limitations. CP is a non-progressive alteration and is considered the primary disabling condition. Hip dislocation is one of the main alterations causing instability in the development of the joint, and it is associated with spasticity, which is a major contributor to increased muscle tone and abnormal postures, leading to muscle shortening and muscle imbalance, particularly in the hip adductors and flexors.
