    Relationship between depression and functional dependence of the elderly in the Casa de Todos shelter - Palomino - 2022

    Objective: To determine the relationship between depression and functional dependence in a population of older adults in the Casa de Todos - Palomino shelter. As part of the study, a search was made for solutions with timely nursing care for the older adult population. Material and Methods: The research is observational, descriptive, correlational, cross-sectional, with a quantitative approach in which the hypothetical and deductive method was applied. The population under study was 70 older adults who belong to the Casa de Todos - Palomino senior citizen shelter. The research instruments were: the Yesavage Test to measure and predict depression and the Barthel Index being used to measure physical dependence and motor disability in older adults, maintaining the inclusion and exclusion criteria, based on the interview technique. Results: According to the Pearson correlation coefficient, it yielded an index of -0.836, which indicates a strong inverse correlation between the variables, which is highly significant. Conclusions: It is concluded that there is a relationship between depression and functional dependence of the elderly in the Casa de Todos Shelter – Palomino.
