Factores asociados a la agudeza visual disminuida en niños de primaria de dos instituciones educativas del distrito Villa Rica 2023

Introduction: The alteration of visual acuity is a current problem, which affects the perception of visual stimuli, for such the identification of those factors that reduce visual acuity in primary school students is currently relevant. Objective: To determine the factors associated with decreased visual acuity in primary school children from two educational institutions in the district of Villa Rica 2023. Material and methods: Hypothetical-deductive study, with a quantitative, applied, correlational, non-experimental, and cut-off approach cross. The population and the sample size were made up of 90 primary school students from two educational institutions. The variables to be evaluated were the associated factors (sociodemographic, epidemiological, habits) and decreased visual acuity. Statistical analysis was by Mann Whitney U test and Chi square, with significance of 5%. Result: It was evidenced that 50% of schoolchildren were between 9 and 11 years of age, 51.1% were women, 70% had grandparents, siblings or parents with eye problems, while 54.5% and 61.1% were in front of to the television and the cell phone respectively for less than 2 hours. In addition, each student could have up to 3 electronic devices, the most common being television (77.8%) and cell phones (95.6%). However, it was determined that only age was a sociodemographic factor significantly associated with decreased visual acuity (p=0.027<0.05). Conclusion: Age was the only sociodemographic factor significantly associated with decreased visual acuity.
