Lima 2023(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-09-21) Guerrero Gonzalo, Yerika Marisol; Sihuay Salazar, Edy Erik; Llahuilla Quea, José AntonioThe present study was conducted with the objective of evaluating the consumption of legal psychostimulants among students of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry at Norbert Wiener Private University. To measure the study variable, five dimensions were considered. The research method used was deductive, with a quantitative approach and a non-experimental and cross-sectional design, at a descriptive level. Data obtained from a sample of 353 students were processed using the statistical program SPSS version 26, and graphs and tables were generated in Excel version 2019. The results revealed that coffee is the most commonly consumed legal psychostimulant in beverage form, while modafinil and methylphenidate are less commonly used. Regarding the purpose and perception of consumption, less than 50% of students use psychostimulants to reduce stress, increase concentration, reduce fatigue, enhance the feeling of well-being, or reduce sleep. Additionally, less than 45% reported experiencing positive effects related to the purpose for which they were consumed. Furthermore, the most commonly reported adverse effects associated with psychostimulant consumption were insomnia, anxiety, and headache.
