Ítem Acceso abierto Knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding the use of hormonal contraceptive methods in general studies students at a private university in Metropolitan Lima, 2018(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-09-10) Guillermo Armas, Liz Noemi; Delgado Sánchez, José LuisObjective: Establish the level of knowledge, attitude and practice on the use of hormonal contraceptive methods in general studies students of a Private University of metropolitan Lima, 2018. Material and Methods: The study was observational, descriptive and prospective cross-sectional. The sample consisted of 48 students, calculated with an algorithm for known populations. Results: The average age was 20.7 years, marital status: 50% single, 35.4% married, 14.6% cohabiting, and religion: 68.8% Catholic. 87.5% had high knowledge about hormonal contraceptive methods and 12.5% had low knowledge. For attitudes, 70% disagree that their partner decides which contraceptive method they should use, 30% agree that their partner decides the method they should use. 100% disagree that the use of contraceptive methods is a sin. 84% disagree with feeling ashamed to request a contraceptive method. In practice, 45.8% do not use any contraceptive method, 27.1% use hormonal methods, 18.8% use barrier method and 8.3% use natural methods, 19% use contraceptive pills, 6% use contraceptive implants and patches, 2% use contraceptive injections and 73% do not use hormonal contraceptives. Conclusion: The general studies students of a Private University of Metropolitan Lima have high knowledge about hormonal contraceptive methods, as an attitude they agree with hormonal contraceptives and in practice the hormonal method of greatest choice is pills.
