Ítem Acceso abierto Neonatal factors associated with mortality of premature babies hospitalized in neonatal intensive care at the Guillermo Almenara National Hospital, Lima 2022(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-07-01) Haro Norabuena, Rosana Sadith; Gonzales Carrillo, Javier JoséIntroduction: Mortality in preterm infants is a health system issue as it reflects indicators related to maternal-neonatal health. Despite efforts to reduce neonatal mortality rates globally, significant disparities still persist, especially between poor and developing countries. Objective: To determine the neonatal factors associated with mortality in preterm infants hospitalized in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Guillermo Almenara Irigoyen National Hospital, Lima 2022. Methods: An observational cross-sectional study was conducted on preterm neonates who were treated in the neonatology service of the Guillermo Almenara Irigoyen National Hospital between January and December 2022. The sample included 300 preterm neonates. Results: It was found that 51.0% were male, 86% were delivered by cesarean section, and the average weight was 1560.73 g. The neonatal factors associated with mortality in preterm infants hospitalized in neonatal intensive care were found. Factors such as Apgar score (p<0.001), neonatal infection (p<0.001), perinatal asphyxia (p<0.001), hypothermia (p<0.001), and hypoglycemia (p<0.001) were associated with neonatal mortality. Conclusion: Neonatal factors are associated with mortality in preterm infants hospitalized in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the Guillermo Almenara Hospital, Lima 2022.
