Ítem Acceso abierto Effectiveness of early enteral feeding for the prevention of necrotizing enterocolitis in preterm infants(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-01-06) Arones Santa Cruz, Carla Rosmery; Hernandez Meza, Jojahna; Pretell Aguilar, Rosa MaríaThe systematic review of 10 scientific articles found on early enteral feeding for the prevention of necrotizing enterocolitis in preterm infants were located in the following databases: Cochrane, PubMed, and Medline. All of them were analyzed according to the GRADE scale to determine their quality and strength of evidence. Of the 10 articles reviewed and analyzed, 20% (n= 2/10) are systematic reviews, 20% (n= 2/10) are cohort studies, 20% (n= 2/10) are case-control studies, and 40% (n= 4/10) are experimental studies. Results: Of the 10 articles found, 60% (n = 6/10) indicate that early enteral feeding is effective in reducing the incidence of necrotizing enterocolitis in preterm neonates, while 40% (n = 4/10) indicate that early enteral feeding has no effect on the prevention of necrotizing enterocolitis in preterm neonates. Conclusion: Six out of the 10 articles found indicate the effectiveness of early enteral feeding in reducing the incidence of necrotizing enterocolitis in preterm neonates. However, four out of the 10 indicate that early enteral feeding does not provide clear evidence to support its effectiveness in preventing necrotizing enterocolitis.
