The Social Media Addiction Scale (ARS) by Miguel Escurra and Edwin Salas and the Child and Adolescent Self-Control Questionnaire (CACIA) by Capafóns Bonet and Silva Moreno, adapted for the Peruvian context, were used. The results indicated that 41.6% of the participants were at a moderate level of social media abuse and 31.1% were at a regular level of self-control. Additionally, statistically significant differences were found in the obsession component (U = 19835.0; p = .003) and social media abuse (U = 20287.5; p = .010) by gender. Statistically significant differences were also found in the lack of control over social media use (X2 = 6.599; p = .037) and social media abuse (X2 = 5.919; p = .042) by age. Finally, a highly significant negative and moderate-low correlation (rho = -.310; p = .000) was found between social media abuse and self-control
