Ítem Acceso abierto Effectiveness of Ethylene Oxide Sterilization in Narrow Lumen Thermosensitive Medical Devices(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2021-09-05) Huamán Allca, Sofía Felipa; Román Obregón, Carmen Rosa; Mori Castro, Jaime AlbertoObjective: To systematize evidence on the effectiveness of ethylene oxide sterilization processes for medical devices with narrow lumens. Material and method: This research has a quantitative approach, and the design is a systematic review. A total of 10 scientific articles were reviewed, which were subjected to critical reading and analyzed using the Grade system to identify the level of quality of the evidence. Results: Of the 10 articles analyzed, 100% (n=10/10) indicate that the ethylene oxide sterilization method for thermosensitive medical devices with lumens or hollow structures is effective due to its strong bactericidal, viricidal, and fungicidal properties, and above all, its high penetrating power and compatibility with all materials. Conclusions: The scientific evidence allows us to conclude that ethylene oxide as a sterilizing agent is effective for devices with narrow lumens due to its high penetrability, and it does not damage or deform the material being sterilized.
