Ítem Acceso abierto Coping strategies in mothers of newborns with jaundice at the Intermediate Neonatology Service I, National Maternal Perinatal Institute – Lima - 2019(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-06-27) Huamani Ccarhuas, Julio Cesar; Pérez Siguas, Rosa EvaIntroduction: Neonatal jaundice occurs in 65-70% of newborns, and in most cases, it is related to unconjugated or indirect hyperbilirubinemia and its evolution is completely favorable. In circumstances, if unconjugated bilirubinemia reaches or exceeds very high values such as 15 mg/dl, there is a risk of neurological complications. Objective: Determine the coping strategies in mothers of newborn children with jaundice in the Intermediate Neonatology Service I of the National Maternal Perinatal Institute, Lima - 2019. Materials and methods: The present study has a quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional approach and design, the population It consisted of 98 newborns with jaundice from the Intermediate Neonatology Service I, Maternal Perinatal Institute. For this, the COPE-28 instrument was used in the version adapted to the original Spanish Brif COPE, the technique used was the interview. The SPSS 23 program was used for the analysis. Results: The total coping strategies were moderately adequate, almost all of them (98%) with a small tendency towards inadequacy (2%). Conclusion: In relation to coping strategies in mothers of newborns with jaundice from the Intermedios I Neonatology Service, Instituto Nacional Materno Perinatal, Lima – 2019, moderately adequate coping predominated, followed by inadequate coping. There were no mothers who presented adequate coping.
