Ítem Acceso abierto Knowledge and care of the central venous catheter in nurses of the critical and intensive care service of the María Auxiliadora Hospital, Lima - 2023(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-07-02) Huanhuayo Huachos, Raquel; Fernández Rengifo, Werther FernandoThe central venous catheter (CVC) is a device that allows the introduction of large drugs, nutrition, parenteral fluids at the level of large central veins (1). However, prolonged use, hospital stay and inadequate care of this device in critical areas cause severe infections due to bacterial colonization, leading to morbidity and mortality of patients, being significantly higher in intensive care units (2). It was found that yes, there is a significant relationship between knowledge and care, where it was evidenced that knowledge was low and care was inadequate, explaining that the greater the knowledge, the greater the care for the patient. Concluding that the nursing role is based on preventive measures such as adequate hand washing, use of sterile gloves, observation of the device on the skin, signs of phlogosis, asepsis, antisepsis and biosafety in a humanized way, hence the need for have competent and trained nursing staff to guarantee good management and care of this CVC device from insertion, permanence and removal for the benefit of the patient.
