Publicación Acceso abierto Determinantes de la desnutrición crónica infantil en menores de 5 años en la asociación Las Lomas de Monterrey Vitarte. Lima 2023(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-04-22) Huaringa Capistrano, Juan Enrique; Surichaqui Arancibia, Liz Mariel; Guadalupe Sifuentes de Posadas, Luz FabiolaThis research was conducted with the purpose of identifying the determinants of chronic childhood malnutrition in children under 5 years old in the Las Lomas de Monterrey Association, Vitarte, Lima, 2023. A non-experimental cross-sectional design was applied, with a quantitative and descriptive approach, taking as a sample all children under 5 years of age in the Association, totaling 384. A previously validated questionnaire, subjected to test-retest reliability, was used as the instrument. Results showed that 85.4% of the children presented mild chronic malnutrition, evidenced by low weight and short stature for their age and sex. Additionally, it was found that 100% of malnourished children did not consume meat or dairy products in their daily diet and lacked access to potable water and sewage services in their households. Moreover, 82.9% of malnourished children lived in households with incomes ranging between S/1,025 and S/2,000 per month. It was concluded that the determinants of chronic childhood malnutrition are the presence of respiratory and diarrheal diseases, inadequate complementary feeding, maternal age, attendance at newborn check-ups, access to basic services, maternal employment status, household income, and access to government programs.
