Ítem Acceso abierto Effectiveness of music therapy in improving depressive symptoms in elderly patients with dementia(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-02-17) Hurtado Contreras, Shirley Miriam; Larico Durand, Sussy Olinda; Pretell Aguilar, Rosa MaríaMusic therapy is effective because it offers various benefits, it improves depressive moods, reduces anxiety and agitation, and improves cognitive function, providing a better quality of life to older adults with dementia. Evidence indicates that at least five sessions of a music therapy intervention probably reduces depressive symptoms, but has little effect on agitation or aggression. Nursing staff should be prepared to implement, develop and lead a Music Therapy program aimed at older adult patients with dementia, which should have five sessions; At the same time, it is a profitable therapy, it is low-cost, pleasant, non-invasive and easy to sustain over time.
