Effectiveness of nursing intervention in the prevention of functional decline in older adults

Objective: Systematize the effectiveness of nursing intervention in preventing functional decline in older adults. Materials and Methods: Systematic and retrospective review, which synthesizes the results of multiple primary investigations, identifies relevant studies to answer specific questions of clinical practice, the search has been restricted to articles with full text, and the selected articles underwent a critical reading, using the GRADE system to assign the strength of recommendation. Results: 10 scientific articles were chosen on the effectiveness of nursing intervention in the prevention of functional decline in the elderly, they were found in the following databases: Pubmed, Ebsco, Dialnet, Scielo, Lilacs, Epistemonikos, all of them correspond to the type and design of studies, systematic review, randomized clinical trials and cohort. Of all the articles analyzed, 70% of the studies demonstrate that providing nursing intervention to the elderly through preventive promotional activities reduces functional decline; 30% generate the same result with home visits, in which a complex work is carried out that holistically addresses the older adult, in the mental or physical and social areas. Conclusions: To prevent the decline of the elderly, prevention and health promotion and home visits are effective.
