Likewise, studies carried out by the WHO in the 2017 annual occupational health report show results that on average 385,000 injuries are caused by sharp or cutting instruments and that nursing staff are the most exposed to this type of accidents between 9 to 11 %. that are closely related to different personal and institutional factors. The present study was carried out on the staff of the Surgical Center of the María Auxiliadora Hospital in order to determine the personal factors and institutional factors that influence sharps accidents in nurses of the surgical center of the hospital mentioned above and thus provide recommendations and/or respective suggestions for improving the intervention processes for sharp accidents that occur in the surgical room.
