Ítem Acceso abierto Uncertainty regarding the disease and depression due to death in relatives of patients in the ICU at a National Hospital in Lima, 2023(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-07-30) López Diaz, Yissela Rosario; Fernández Rengifo, Werther FernandoUncertainty arises when individuals are unable to predict the future or face a mismatch between different cognitions, experiences, or behaviors. Likewise, depression is a clinical syndrome characterized by symptoms such as a depressed mood and a lack of pleasure or interest. Objective: To determine how the level of uncertainty regarding illness is related to death-related depression among family members of ICU patients in a national hospital in Lima, 2023. The study will follow a quantitative approach, correlational level, with a non-experimental, descriptive, and cross-sectional observational design. The study population will consist of 120 family members of ICU patients at the National Hospital in Lima. To measure the uncertainty variable, the Perception of Uncertainty in Illness Scale will be used. This scale comprises 31 items with a Likert scale ranging from 1 to 5, where 1 = Strongly disagree and 5 = Strongly agree. It was validated by the research committee of the University of Cartagena’s School of Nursing, achieving content validity with a V-Aiken score > 0.91. The variable of death-related depression will be measured using the Death Depression Scale. This questionnaire consists of 21 items with a Likert scale from 1 to 5, where 1 = Strongly disagree and 5 = Strongly agree. It was approved by five expert judges who confirmed optimal values for content validity, with a V-Aiken score > 0.80.
