Ítem Acceso abierto Factors involved in patients with urinary tract infections treated in the urology unit(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2017) Cavalcanti Gamboa, Olga René; López Mogollón, Zoila; Gómez Gonzales, Walter EdgarObjective: To determine the factors influencing patients with urinary tract infections treated in a urology service. Materials and Methods: Systematic reviews are an observational and retrospective study design that synthesizes the results of multiple primary studies. They are essential for evidence-based nursing due to their rigorous methodology, identifying studies relevant to answering specific clinical practice questions. Results: The search was conducted in databases such as SciELO, LILACS, EBSCO, Medline, and PubMed. A total of 65 articles were reviewed, and 6 articles were selected that addressed factors influencing patients with urinary tract infections. Included were 1 meta-analysis with very high evidence quality, 2 case-control studies, 2 cross-sectional studies with moderate evidence quality, and 1 quantitative study involving pregnant women. Conclusions: 100% of the studies included in the systematic review demonstrated that the factors influencing the presence of a urinary tract infection were age, sex, and other risk factors. Age prevalence was higher among individuals under 19 years old, males, and uncircumcised men. Other risk factors for UTIs included being over 74 years old, the insertion of a urinary catheter before ICU admission, catheterization lasting more than two weeks, coexistence with peritonitis, and managing with an open abdomen.
