Ítem Acceso abierto Critical review: vitamin deficiency as a risk factor in the development of pulmonary tuberculosis in adults(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-10-11) La Torre Valdivieso, Eloisa Amalia; Bohórquez Medina, Andrea LisbetThe intervention during tuberculosis treatment improves nutritional status and reduces liver issues due to polypharmacy. The secondary research titled "Vitamin Deficiency as a Risk Factor in the Development of Pulmonary Tuberculosis in Adults" aimed to identify clinical studies related to vitamin status and quality of life in pulmonary tuberculosis. The clinical question was: Does vitamin deficiency contribute to the activation of pulmonary tuberculosis and hinder the proper progress of anti-tuberculosis treatment in patients with positive sputum? The Evidence-Based Nutrition (EBN) methodology was used, and information was gathered from SCOPUS, EMBASE, SCIENCE DIRECT, PUBMED, SCIELO, and COCHRANE LIBRARY, with 148 articles found. After evaluating 18 articles using the CASPe tool, the article "Vitamin D Status and Risk of Incident Tuberculosis Disease: A Nested Case-Control Study, Systematic Review, and Meta-Analysis of Individual Participant Data" was selected, with evidence level AI and a strong recommendation grade. The critical review concluded that dietary supplementation with vitamins A, D, or their combinations did not have a protective effect against liver injury or dysfunction caused by anti-tuberculosis drugs.
