Ítem Acceso abierto Peripheral muscle strength and risk of falling in older adults from the day care center for the elderly, Lima 2022(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-12-01) Lanegra Ascarate, Wendy Yajaira; Chero Pisfil, Santos LucioDuring the aging process, older adults are more prone to falls due to muscle weakness, decreased muscle strength, and gait and balance alterations, making falls one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality globally, considered one of the most important geriatric syndromes in the elderly population. Grip strength or pinch strength has been adopted as an indicator of muscle strength, allowing the evaluation of the upper limb muscles' ability to overcome resistance and identify functional limitations. For this research, a dynamometer will be used to quantify the maximum pressure force exerted by each hand to assess the musculoskeletal function of older adults in performing activities of daily living. The Tinetti Scale will be used to evaluate fall risk through balance and gait assessment in older adults at the senior day care center.
