Ítem Acceso abierto Systematic review on the usefulness of Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) as a tool for early detection of prostate cancer in adult patients(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 1905-07-09) Lescano Guerra, Carlos Enrrique; Garcia Garcia, Carlos Raúl; Herencia Torres, Victor ReynaldoIn the control and detection of prostate cancer, two tests are included: the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) and the Digital Rectal Exam (DRE); however, a biopsy is the confirmatory test for the presence of prostate cancer. Therefore, a systematic review is conducted with the following objective: Objective: To establish the usefulness of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) as a tool for early detection of prostate cancer in adult patients. Method: To create this systematic review, different information search engines were used. Boolean operators (AND, OR, and NOT) were also employed to connect the key words. Studies evaluating the effectiveness of prostate-specific antigen, published in Spanish, English, and Portuguese between 2006 and 2016, and articles from randomized clinical trials were included. Results: A systematic review was conducted analyzing five databases of studies published in Spanish and English between 2010 and 2016. Twelve original articles were found, of which two were selected for analysis as a Randomized Clinical Trial based on the inclusion criteria. Conclusions: It is concluded that prostate-specific antigen is a useful tool for the early detection of prostate cancer. Early detection of the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level increases the likelihood of preventing prostate cancer
