    Systematic Review: Effect of Physical Exercise on Serum Cholesterol Levels in Patients with Dyslipidemia

    Objective: To determine the effect of physical exercise on serum cholesterol levels in patients with dyslipidemia. Methods: A systematic review was conducted analyzing eight articles published in different languages between 2008 and 2015 that evaluate the effect of physical exercise on total cholesterol in patients with dyslipidemia, following the guidelines proposed by PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) using the CASPe tool. Results: Eight articles were selected, including 5 case-control studies, 2 cohort studies, and 1 randomized clinical trial. The CASPe tool was used to assess the quality of each article evaluating the effect of exercise on total cholesterol levels. Conclusions: There is an effect of physical exercise on total cholesterol levels in patients with dyslipidemia, but the change is more significant when the exercise program is of higher intensity and longer duration to observe a clinically significant effect.
