Ítem Acceso abierto Disability due to low back pain and daytime sleepiness in patients with low back pain from a Spine Center in Lima, 2023(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-10-25) Lugo Crespo, Lisbeth Nathaly; Chero Pisfil, Santos LucioLow back pain is an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience that, when increasing, affects daily life activities, leading to alterations in sexual life, personal care, work, social life, and sleep. Chronic low back pain, which persists over time, can influence various aspects of daily life and cause daytime sleepiness. Objective: To determine the relationship between disability due to low back pain and daytime sleepiness in patients with lumbalgia at a spinal center in Lima in 2023. Method: The study uses a hypothetical-deductive method, a quantitative approach, basic research type, non-experimental, cross-sectional design, and a descriptive correlational level. The sample consisted of 80 patients out of 100. The Oswestry Disability Index (Spanish version by Flórez, 1995) will be used to measure disability due to low back pain, and the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (Peruvian version by Rosales, 2009) will be used to measure daytime sleepiness. SPSS version 23 will be used for statistical analysis, applying Spearman’s Rho test. Results: Regarding sociodemographic characteristics, 57% were male, 42.5% female, 40% were aged 20–35 years, 28.7% aged 36-50 years, and 31.3% aged 51-65 years. The majority (50%) worked in administrative occupations, 86.3% had minimal disability, 10% had moderate disability, and 3.8% had severe disability. Light daytime sleepiness was observed in 75%, while 7.5% had moderate sleepiness. Conclusions: A relationship was found between disability due to low back pain and daytime sleepiness, particularly among those with severe disability, mostly male, aged 20-35 years, and working in administrative occupations.
