Identificación de reacciones adversas medicamentosas por el uso de antibióticos en pacientes hospitalizados en el Hospital Nacional María Auxiliadora, periodo 2017–2018

The objective of this research was to determine the percentage of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) from antibiotic use in hospitalized patients at the María Auxiliadora National Hospital in Lima, Peru. For this purpose, a descriptive, cross-sectional, and prospective study was designed, and the sample consisted of all 123 event notification forms related to ADRs from the period of 2017–2018. The results showed that 40.6% of reported ADRs were dermal. Of these, 70% occurred in women, 43.1% were attributed to antibiotics, and 74% were mild. Furthermore, 72% of these dermal ADRs were reported by a pharmaceutical chemist, with the largest proportion occurring in the gynecology-obstetrics department. Within the group of ADRs associated with antibiotics, 19% were related to Beta-lactams. The conclusions were that 40% of all reported ADRs in the hospital were dermal, and the highest percentage of reactions associated with antibiotics occurred in the medicine service. Additionally, 14.6% were dermal reactions associated with antibiotics. It was observed that the pharmaceutical chemist was the professional who reported most frequently, accounting for 77% of notifications. Half of the notifications were mild, followed by moderate reactions at 42%. Dermal drug reactions are frequently observed in daily medical practice, and a significant number of patients require hospitalization, with some associated variables such as age and severity being noted.
