The objective of this research was to determine the frequency of partial edentulism in the jaws of patients treated at the Department of Stomatology of the Central Military Hospital during the years 1999-2016. The frequency of partial edentulism was evaluated using the Kennedy classification and its modifications; data were collected using a form that recorded the present and absent dental pieces found in the clinical history. The sample consisted of 2,007 clinical records; the study was descriptive, observational, cross-sectional, and retrospective. Among the results, the highest frequency of partial edentulism was found in the strict Class III Kennedy classification in both the upper and lower jaws. In the upper jaw, males had a higher frequency of partial edentulism Class III strict Kennedy at 20.7%, and in the lower jaw, it was 15.7%. The age group of 40-49 years had the highest frequency of partial edentulism with strict Class III Kennedy in both jaws. The military occupation had partial edentulism with strict Class III Kennedy in the upper jaw at 18.1% and in the lower jaw at 12.2%. The study concluded that Class III Kennedy was the most frequent classification found in both jaws of patients treated at the Central Military Hospital.

(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2015) Carhuas Huaranga, María Marlene; Lujan Larreategui, Haydee Giovanna
The purpose of this research was to define the smile height in relation to facial biotype in students aged 15-17 at Huaycán Mixed School N° 1236, Peru, 2015. Facial height and width were measured clinically using a digital Vernier caliper, and photographs of spontaneous smiles were taken and evaluated. The study was observational, prospective, cross-sectional, descriptive, and relational. The sample consisted of 244 students who met the inclusion criteria. Data analysis was performed using the chi-square correlation test for related samples, with a 95% confidence level and a 5% margin of error. The results showed a significant difference in smile height in relation to facial biotype in both genders. Leptoprosopic (dolichofacial) students had high smile height, mesoprosopic (mesofacial) students had medium smile height, and euriprosopic (brachyfacial) students had low smile height. The difference was not significant for age. In conclusion, the results demonstrated that smile height should be applied according to facial biotype, as statistically significant differences were found.

Presence of subprosthetic stomatitis in elderly adults with total prostheses at the Canevaro Hostel, Lima 2018
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-06-19) Laguna Pino, Marycielo Yandira; Lujan Larreategui, Haydee Giovanna
The purpose of this study was to determine the presence of denture stomatitis in elderly patients wearing complete dentures at the Canevaro Shelter, Lima-2018. In this study, 96 denture wearers were examined, where a visual examination was conducted using basic diagnostic tools to locate the lesion area, the duration of prosthesis use, and the condition of the prosthesis. The results were as follows: the total presence of denture stomatitis was 100%; the most common grade was type II with 58.3%, followed by grade I with 29.2% and 12.5% with grade III. Lesions were more frequent in individuals who wore complete dentures for over 5 years. It was concluded that the high frequency of patients with various degrees of denture stomatitis is associated with factors such as the condition of the prostheses and the duration of use, significantly affecting the oral health of the patients studied.

Relationship between gingival inflammation, masticatory ability, and tooth loss in patients with Alzheimer’s disease treated at PADOMI, Lima–Peru, 2022
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-05-21) PalacinTello, Gisela Milagros; Lujan Larreategui, Haydee Giovanna
The objective of this study was to evaluate the relationship between gingival inflammation, masticatory capacity, and missing teeth in patients with Alzheimer's disease. An observational, descriptive, and cross-sectional study was conducted with a sample of 60 Alzheimer's patients attended at PADOMI of ESSALUD, Lima–Peru, during the year 2022. The instruments used were the Löe and Silness Gingival Index, the Leake Masticatory Capacity Index, and the CPOD Index. The relationship between the variables was defined using the Chi-square test. The results showed that most patients had moderate gingival inflammation (83.3%), poor masticatory capacity (98.3%), and between 10 and 18 missing teeth (65.0%). A significant relationship was found between gingival inflammation and the number of missing teeth (p = 0.034). However, no relationship was found between masticatory capacity and gingival inflammation (p = 0.903) or with the number of missing teeth (p = 0.760). In conclusion, a relationship was established between gingival inflammation and the number of missing teeth, but no relationship was found between masticatory capacity and gingival inflammation or with the number of missing teeth.
