Ítem Acceso abierto Physical activity, sleep quality, and work engagement of healthcare workers in Lima hospitals(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-06-06) Acosta Ruiz, Anita de Jesús; Manrique Villanueva, Natali Reyna; Rodriguez Garcia, Rosa VicentaThe healthcare workforce has increased in all countries, and work motivation (engagement) is crucial in this occupational group due to the critical nature of the work in healthcare. The study aimed to verify the association between physical activity, sleep quality, and work engagement in healthcare workers from hospitals in Lima. The research was analytical, cross-sectional. The sample consisted of 100 healthcare workers from hospitals in Lima, with an average age of 40.9 (10.9) years, 68% female, comprising professionals and technicians. They were surveyed using the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ-OMS), the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale. A significant association was found between total engagement scores and the average METs per week (r = 0.77, 95% CI 0.68–0.84, p <0.001), as well as a negative correlation between sleep quality and work engagement scores (r = -0.51, 95% CI -0.64 / -0.34, p <0.001). The conclusion is that there is an association between physical activity, sleep quality, and work engagement in healthcare workers in Lima hospitals.
