Ítem Acceso abierto Parental socialization and social skills in secondary school students from ATE VITARTE educational centers, 2019.(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2021-08-05) Mariscal Vega, Lisbeth Miriam; Tamayo Toro, Mónica AlexandraThe purpose of this research was to determine the relationship between parental socialization and social skills in secondary school students from educational institutions in Ate Vitarte, 2019. This study was descriptive, correlational, and cross-sectional. The population consisted of 410 students from 4th and 5th secondary grades of four educational institutions in Ate Vitarte. The sample was non-probabilistic and intentional. The Parental Socialization Styles Scale (ESPA29) was used to evaluate parental socialization, and the Social Skills Scale by Elena Gismero González was used for social skills. The hypotheses were tested using Spearman's rho. It was found that there was no significant correlation between the Acceptance/Implication dimension and social skills, both with the father (rho = 0.101; p = 0.08 > 0.05) and the mother (rho = -0.72; p = 0.216 > 0.05). The same trend was observed when correlating the Coercion/Imposition dimension with social skills. Negative correlations were found with indifference and dialogue of both parents and physical coercion from the father, with a weak positive correlation in the mother's affection dimension. The conclusion was that there is no significant relationship (p > 0.05) between parental socialization and social skills in secondary school students from institutions in Ate in 2019. This means that the knowledge, attitudes, values, customs, needs, feelings, and other cultural patterns transmitted within the family environment through paternal and maternal roles do not condition the behavior of children.
