    Índice de masa corporal y principales enfermedades cardiovasculares en la población que acude al mercado San Pedro del Distrito de Lurín – Lima 2023

    Objective: Determine the relationship between the body mass index and cardiovascular diseases in the population that goes to the San Pedro market in the district of Lurín/KICK - Lima 2023. Methodology: The study was hypothetical - deductive; a quantitative approach; basic type, non-experimental design, cross-sectional and descriptive level - correlational, nonprobabilistic for convenience. The sample consisted of 384 residents chosen at random and the Pearson Chi square test (x2) was used with a p < 0.05. As the main result, it was obtained that BMI is related to cardiovascular diseases. Its statistical foundation obtained p-value 0.032. A relationship was found between BMI and cardiovascular diseases in the population according to the age group of 20 to 40 years with a p-value of 0.028. Likewise, BMI is related to the presence of cardiovascular diseases according to female gender with a p-value of 0.017. No relationship was found between the BMI variable and cardiovascular diseases according to race. It is stated that the eating habits variable is not related to cardiovascular diseases, obtaining a p-value of 0.126. Likewise, it can be stated that the lifestyle variable is related to the presence of cardiovascular diseases p-value at 0.002. Conclusion: It can be stated that the Body Mass Index (BMI) is significantly related to the presence of cardiovascular diseases, that is, as the BMI varies, so does the probability of developing cardiovascular diseases.
