ALTERACIONES DE LAS CONSTANTES CORPUSCULARES EN PACIENTES ADULTOS CON ERITROCITOSIS SECUNDARIA A CARDIOPATÍAS DE UNA INSTITUCIÓN DE SALUD ESPECIALIZADA EN ENFERMEDADES CARDIOVASCULARES DE LIMA, PERIODO 2016 – 2017

El objetivo fue identificar las alteraciones de las constantes corpusculares en pacientes adultos con eritrocitosis secundaria a cardiopatías de una institución de salud especializada en enfermedades cardiovasculares de Lima, periodo 2016 - 2017. El estudio fue de tipo descriptivo, retrospectivo y de corte transversal. Se recolectó 125 resultados de hemogramas de pacientes que cumplían con los criterios de inclusión para el estudio. Se encontró que el 78% de los resultados de los pacientes fueron normocíticos normocrómicos y el 22% microcíticos hipocrómicos, de estos últimos el 71% presentaron el CHCM dentro de los valores de referencia y el 29% el CHCM menor al valor de referencia. El grupo etario más representativo fue el de pacientes adultos jóvenes con el 64% de los resultados, seguido de los adultos medio con 28% y adultos mayores con el 8%. Respecto a los valores de hemoglobina, hematocrito y recuento de eritrocitos se encontró un predominio de los pacientes del sexo masculino. Este estudio aporta mayor información sobre el comportamiento de los valores hematológicos de los eritrocitos y de las constantes corpusculares en pacientes con eritrocitosis secundaria a cardiopatía, además, brinda datos cuantitativos que pueden ser de ayuda para los profesionales del área de laboratorio clínico.

Alterations in Blood Cell Counts in Adult Patients with Secondary Erythrocytosis Due to Heart Disease at a Health Institution Specialized in Cardiovascular Diseases in Lima, 2016-2017

The objective was to identify alterations in corpuscular constants in adult patients with erythrocytosis secondary to heart diseases at a healthcare institution specializing in cardiovascular diseases in Lima, during the period from 2016 to 2017. The study was descriptive, retrospective, and cross-sectional. A total of 125 hemogram results from patients who met the inclusion criteria were collected. It was found that 78% of the patients' results were normocytic normochromic and 22% were microcytic hypochromic. Of the latter, 71% had CHCM within the reference values, while 29% had CHCM below the reference value. The most represented age group was young adults, comprising 64% of the results, followed by middle-aged adults at 28% and older adults at 8%. Regarding hemoglobin, hematocrit, and erythrocyte count values, a predominance of male patients was found. This study provides more information on the behavior of hematological values and corpuscular constants in patients with erythrocytosis secondary to heart disease, offering quantitative data that may assist clinical laboratory professionals.

Occupational risk factors in the personnel working in the emergency clinical laboratory of a Lima hospital from October - December 2017

The objective was to determine the occupational risk factors for the staff working in the clinical laboratory of a hospital in Lima, studying the risks frequently encountered in the workplace. This study was conducted with part of the staff using questionnaires and observational forms validated by expert judgment, following a prospective descriptive study design. Our research focused on the existing occupational risks in various hospitals and findings related to our investigation. We found that in the workplace, we are governed by biological, chemical, and physical risks, all of which pose a high danger to the healthcare professional's contact. The goal of this research is to raise awareness about the potential risks to which we are exposed and to reduce the probability of accidents through supervision, better guidelines, training, and updates in our professional field.

Validation for the transfer of the reference intervals of blood cytometry established by WHO to the population of men and women between 20 and 40 years of age, treated in a private laboratory, following the protocol of the EPSI-A3C guide of the CLSI, Lima, 2018

Reference intervals are essential for diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of pathologies. If the reference interval is inadequate for the population being served, it can lead to misinterpretation of results. The CLSI working group believes laboratories should focus on validating the transfer of their reference intervals, as this is a less tedious process. The aim of this research was to validate the transfer of the WHO-established hematology reference intervals to a population of men and women aged 20 to 40, served in a private laboratory, following the EP28-A3C CLSI guideline, Lima, 2018. This study is descriptive and cross-sectional. It selected 20 men and 20 women who were "apparently healthy." The study concluded that the transfer of the WHO hematology reference intervals was unsatisfactory, as 1 parameter for men and 3 for women did not meet the EP28-A3C criteria. It is recommended that the private laboratory determine its own hematology reference intervals.
