Ítem Acceso abierto Effectiveness of Oral Hygiene with Chlorhexidine in the Prevention of Pneumonia Associated with Mechanical Ventilation in the Intensive Care Unit(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 1905-07-09) Llancari Tutaya, Saul; Meza Durán, Vanessa; Gómez Gonzales, Walter EdgarObjectives: Determine the effectiveness of oral hygiene with chlorhexidine in the prevention of pneumonia associated with mechanical ventilation. Material and methods: A review of the medical literature was carried out, which consists of a review of 5 systematic reviews and 5 clinical trials indexed in scientific databases, which respond to articles published in Spanish and English. A search was carried out for articles indexed in Lipecs, Lilacs, Scielo, Cochrane Plus, IntraMed, using the keywords: Effectiveness of oral care AND prevention of pneumonia AND mechanical ventilation AND intensive care, Effectiveness of oral care OR prevention of pneumonia OR ventilation mechanical OR intensive care, Oral care AND prevention of pneumonia NOT mechanical ventilation, Effectiveness oral care OR prevention of pneumonia NOT mechanical ventilation, Oral care OR chlorhexidine AND ventilator-associated pneumonia. Results: 5 systematic reviews and 5 clinical trials were found, which met the inclusion criteria. It was noted that nine of the 10 reviews substantiate and show the effectiveness of chlorhexidine in the prevention of pneumonia associated with mechanical ventilation, only one mentions that it does not prevent or completely reduce chlorhexidine. . Conclusions: Oral hygiene with chlorhexidine is effective in preventing pneumonia associated with mechanical ventilation.
