Ítem Acceso abierto Changes in post-training peak expiratory flow in adult patients with asthma in a health center in Lima, 2023(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-11-17) Mori Belleza, Samuel Santiago; Cautín Martinez, Noemi EstherAsthma is one of the most common chronic non-communicable pulmonary diseases, affecting around 334 million people globally and causing 250,000 deaths annually. One of the primary components of asthma is airway flow limitation due to bronchoconstriction, edema, and mucus secretion, which can lead to respiratory failure in the long term. Various studies have examined how training respiratory muscles positively influences the physiological and functional measures of asthmatic patients, producing better alveolar opening, increased ventilation, and reduced airway inflammation. The goal of this study was to determine changes in peak expiratory flow after training in adult asthma patients. A respiratory muscle training protocol was implemented, and a peak flow meter was used to assess airway restriction before and after completing the prescribed exercise program. The study population consisted of all asthma patients attending the Providencia Clinic in the San Miguel district of Lima.
