Publicación Acceso abierto Implementación del soporte nutricional parenteral en los recién nacidos prematuros menores de 1500 g y la disminución de la morbimortalidad en el servicio de UCIN del HRDMI – El Carmen periodo enero 2017–diciembre 2019(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2021-12-01) Muñoz Aviles , Katherine Susibel; Justil Guerrero, Hugo JesúsNutrition plays a crucial role in the recovery and overall development of premature newborns. Inadequate nutritional support can lead to poor growth and higher incidence of complications, which in turn negatively impacts morbidity and mortality. Parenteral nutrition has therefore become a vital survival strategy for this population. This study aimed to evaluate whether the implementation of parenteral nutritional support decreased morbidity and mortality in premature newborns weighing less than 1500 g. An explanatory, quasi-experimental, longitudinal design was applied, including 54 newborns before and 54 after the intervention, between 2017 and 2019. The results showed that, prior to implementation (2017–2018), morbidity reached 100% of cases in the NICU at HRDMI – El Carmen, with all patients developing septic shock and dying. After implementation (2019), morbidity was observed in 79.63% of cases, while mortality decreased to 20.37%. In conclusion, parenteral nutritional support significantly reduced morbidity and mortality in premature newborns under 1500 g.
