Ítem Acceso abierto Follow-up of squamous intraepithelial lesions of the cervix in pregnant women at the San José maternal and child center 2015 - 2020(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-11-20) Muñoz Mego, Dunaway Daneli; García Vásquez, Carlos HugoCervical cancer is considered a public health problem affecting people worldwide. In Peru, cervical cancer ranks third as a cause of death, and is the leading cancer-related cause of death in women. Cervical cancer screening is based on the Papanicolaou test, one of the most cost-effective tests that can be performed in any healthcare facility. It is estimated that using this method could prevent 40% of cervical cancer cases. The identification of squamous intraepithelial lesions of the cervix during pregnancy is higher than in non-pregnant patients, as pregnant women often present cytological alterations. Some of these alterations are due to physiological changes during pregnancy, while others may be pre-existing malignant conditions that could progress to cervical cancer. Understanding this is crucial for developing prevention and monitoring programs targeting patients with cervical pathology.
