Ítem Acceso abierto Systemic review: continuous cardiovascular and strength training in blood pressure control in hypertensive older adults.(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-10-05) Narrea Vargas, Jose Alonso; Gutiérrez Ramírez, Karla GiulianaINTRODUCTION: Currently, physical exercise is considered a non-pharmacological hypotensive treatment for patients with high blood pressure. Given this, it is important to identify which training model to date has presented the greatest evidence and safety to be considered the most indicated in population of older adults due to high blood pressure. OBJECTIVE: Identify the scientific evidence of continuous cardiovascular training as opposed to strength training in the control of blood pressure in hypertensive older adults. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Academic work of a descriptive review type, with the target population being adult patients over 60 years of age of both genders with a diagnosis of arterial hypertension. Information was searched in MEDLINE, SciELO, Google Scholar and BVS; having a database of 351 scientific articles of which 9 scientific articles were finally selected after going through two search filters. RESULTS: From 9 selected scientific studies, it was identified that 5 of 7 studies determined the hypotensive effect of strength training, while 2 of 2 studies determined the hypotensive effect for aerobic training in hypertensive older adults. CONCLUSIONS: Continuous aerobic or cardiovascular training is identified as a training model that presents a significant effect on the modulation of blood pressure in older adult hypertensive patients before acute and/or chronic responses to training, unlike strength training, which is sometimes capable of considerably reducing blood pressure, but not in others.
