Ítem Desconocido Knowledge level of postpartum women about breastfeeding in the gynecology-obstetrics service at Centro Materno Infantil Rímac – Lima 2014(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2015) Hurtado León, Merwin Katherine; Narro Gamarra, Sandra Carla; Zavaleta Gutiérrez, Violeta AideéIn the conceptual context of the breastfeeding component, the objective was to determine the level of knowledge among postpartum women hospitalized in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Service at the Rímac Health Center. The study was quantitative, descriptive, and cross-sectional; the population consisted of 48 postpartum women. The result of the knowledge level of the women about breastfeeding showed that nearly 50% had a medium level, with a tendency toward low knowledge (33%). Regarding essential knowledge, a medium level was found in 63%, with a predominance of low knowledge (31%). Knowledge about the benefits of breastfeeding for women was medium in 69%, while 31% had low knowledge, and none had a high level. Regarding knowledge about the benefits of breastfeeding for the newborn, most women showed low knowledge (81%), followed by 19% with medium knowledge, and none reached a high level. Regarding breastfeeding techniques, 54% had a medium level of knowledge, with 27% at a high level. Conclusions: Although the postpartum women showed a medium level of knowledge, a significant percentage had low knowledge, which could be considered a risk for the initiation, duration, and early weaning of breastfeeding.
