Publicación Acceso abierto Identificación de ácido hipúrico y fenoles en orina de trabajadores con exposición laboral de imprentas del Centro Comercial Lima, Cercado de Lima(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-05-25) Olivera Cueva, Carlos Eduardo; Ramos Jaco, Antonio GuillermoIn this study, we identified the levels of phenols and hippuric acid in the urine of 40 workers employed in printing presses in Cercado de Lima. These workers frequently use organic solvents such as benzene and toluene in concentrations ranging from 1% to 3%. The quantification of total phenols was performed using the spectrophotometric method of Banfi and Marenzi, and hippuric acid was quantified using the Weichselbaum and Probstein titration method. The average of total phenols found was 222.35 mg/L, and hippuric acid was 2.048 g/L. These values indicate exposure to both benzene and toluene, as they exceed the reference values in urine given by the WHO (75 mg/L for phenols and 0.4 to 1.4 g/L for hippuric acid). The toxicological studies were conducted in the toxicology and legal chemistry laboratory of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry at Norbert Wiener University.
