Publicación Acceso abierto Actividad hipoglicemiante y evaluación de la capacidad del extracto etanólico de la semilla de Persea americana Mill "palto" para reducir el daño histológico en células β pancreáticas(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-06-17) García Chávez, Yelson Néstor; Ortega Ponce, Dany Lizbeth; Chávez Flores, Juana ElviraThe objectives were to determine the hypoglycemic activity and evaluate the capacity of the ethanolic extract from the seed of Persea americana Mill, 'Palto' (avocado), to reduce histological damage in pancreatic β cells. Methodology: The ethanolic extract was obtained by collecting, chopping, and drying the seed. Maceration was performed for 7 days. The Szkudelski method was used, which induces diabetes with alloxan, and the hypoglycemic evaluation was performed using test strips. After the study concluded, the animals were sacrificed, and histological sections of the pancreas were prepared. Results: The seed extract showed solubility in water. Treatment with the 200 mg/kg dose was the most effective in reducing glucose. The histological sections showed that the damage produced by alloxan was minor in the pancreatic β cells of the mice treated with the extract of the species under study. Conclusion: The ethanolic extract of the seed was successfully obtained and the solubility test was performed. The extract applied in mice presents hypoglycemic activity via the Szkudelski method, and it was determined that the seed extract has the capacity to reduce histological damage in pancreatic β cells.
