A research project whose objective is to demonstrate the advantages of the use of conceptual maps with CMAPTOOLS as a strategy to promote meaningful learning in the area of natural sciences in fifth grade students of the San Francisco Rural School in the Municipality of Cepitá. Methodologically corresponds to an applied research of pre-experimental level, in which 18 students participated, 10 girls and 8 children participated; as instruments for data collection, a questionnaire and pretest and posttest tests were used to evaluate meaningful learning. The results show that with the use of the CMAPTOOLS tool, students improved their creativity and reading competence as elements for meaningful learning in the area of natural sciences.
